Today's Scripture

Scripture — James 1:5 (KJV)
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

The Reflection

Some decisions weigh heavily because you understand that your choice may affect more than your own life. You may want to act faithfully while feeling uncertain about which direction to take. James offers this invitation within his teaching about trials, reminding believers to seek God’s wisdom when difficulties test their endurance. You are welcome to acknowledge that you do not know enough to navigate every situation alone. The words “upbraideth not” assure you that God does not reproach you for coming to Him with your need for wisdom. His generosity gives you reason to ask openly rather than hide your uncertainty behind an appearance of confidence. Seeking wisdom involves a willingness to let His truth examine your motives and guide your conduct. That guidance may require careful attention to Scripture, thoughtful consideration of the facts, and counsel from trustworthy people. You can make a responsible decision without knowing every consequence or receiving an unmistakable sign. Today, grace invites you to approach God as a willing learner, trusting Him to help you respond faithfully to what lies before you.

Prayer:

 Heavenly Father,

Heavenly Father, I bring You the decisions that require my attention today. You know the details I understand and the information I still need. Thank You for welcoming my request for wisdom without reproaching me for my limitations. Help me recognize when fear, pride, or impatience is influencing my judgment. Give me a teachable heart that receives Your instruction and remains open to wise counsel. Guide me to consider the people affected by my choices with honesty and compassion. Keep me from mistaking a strong desire or passing feeling for Your direction. Grant me patience where further understanding is needed and courage where faithful action is already clear. Help me accept correction and entrust the results of my decisions to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Meditation

Bring one decision to mind and describe it as clearly as you can. Consider what makes the choice difficult and which details remain uncertain. Read the invitation “let him ask of God” as permission to approach your heavenly Father with this specific need. Reflect on the generosity expressed in the words “giveth to all men liberally.” You do not have to conceal your lack of understanding before the One who offers wisdom. Ask whether you are willing to receive guidance that challenges your preferred answer. Examine the choice in light of Scripture’s teaching about truthfulness, love, fairness, and humility. Consider whether additional information or trustworthy counsel would help you proceed responsibly. Allow time for careful discernment without demanding that every possible outcome become clear. Move toward your next step with a heart willing to learn, obey, and remain dependent upon God.

Self Reflection

  1. What information do you still need before making a responsible choice?

  2. How does God’s invitation to ask for wisdom influence your willingness to admit uncertainty?

  3. Are fear, pride, impatience, or the desire for approval affecting your judgment?

  4. Which biblical teachings should guide your conduct in this decision?

  5. Who could offer trustworthy counsel, and are you prepared to consider their advice?

  6. What faithful next step can you take while entrusting the outcome to God?

  7. What decision do you need God’s wisdom for today, and how willing are you to receive guidance that differs from your preferred answer?

  8. Which decision currently feels most difficult, and why does it matter to you
